| Passive-Solar This is a 1400 sf home with 1 bedroom w/ walk-in closet, 2 1⁄2 bath, W/D laundry room, 2nd floor office/guest bedroom, deck and large kitchen/living room. It is a passive solar design incorporating four large Trombe walls and a solar batch hot water heater. It gets all its domestic water from roof-top water catchment w/ 3- 1400 gallon water tanks buried adjacent to the house and a 3 stage high output water filter for the whole house. It has brick–on-sand floors and is mostly 2x6 frame construction, with R-52 cellulose insulation in the roof. This home was designed by Karlis Viceps of Solar Plans, LLC (solar@newmex.com) and was completed in 2005 for about $130 per sf. |
